Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
GOTCHA is a Mac screenshot and screen recording tool. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it. No legalese. No surprises.
What we collect
- Screenshots and recordings you choose to upload. These are stored on our servers to generate shareable links.
- Account information if you sign in with Google (name, email address, profile picture). Used solely to associate your uploads with your account.
- Basic usage metadata: upload timestamps, file sizes, link access counts. No keystroke logging, no screen monitoring beyond what you explicitly capture.
What we do not collect
- Screenshots or recordings you do not upload. Files annotated and saved locally never leave your machine.
- Microphone audio. GOTCHA does not record audio.
- Browsing history, contacts, location, or any other data unrelated to the app's core function.
Permissions
GOTCHA requests the following macOS permissions:
- Screen Recording — required to capture screenshots and screen recordings. You control when the app captures; it does not run in the background.
- Camera — optional. Used only if you enable camera overlay during a recording session.
- Microphone — requested by the system but not actively used. GOTCHA does not record audio.
You can revoke any permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Cloud storage
Uploaded files are stored securely and accessible only via the unique link generated at upload time. Your free storage allowance is 1 GB. Files may be deleted after a period of inactivity. We do not share, sell, or analyse the content of your uploads.
Third-party services
- Google Sign-In — authentication only. Google's privacy policy applies to that interaction.
- Cloudflare — CDN and infrastructure. Standard access logs apply.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete your uploaded files at any time from within the app. To request full account deletion including all stored files, contact us at the address below.
